I have thick wavy hair too. I usually straighten it when i want it to be nice and sillky. And recently i added side bangs, it just give it a nicer more mature look. i suggest you get side bangs, and leave your hair wavy, and straighten the bangs part. That always looks nice.

Layered shorter cut, sidebangs. Still straighten occasionally, don't put it up in a ponytail a lot. It leaves a big bump. Try scrunching, messy bun, french braids, half ponytail, and other things like that.
